Shingle roofing warranties
Asphalt shingle warranties differ mostly in two ways: how long coverage stays non-prorated (paid at full value) and whether labor and workmanship are included. The strongest tiers are only available through certified contractors and require a complete system of matching underlayment, starter, ridge cap and ventilation from the same manufacturer.

Windows, soffit, fascia & gutters
Replacement windows carry manufacturer warranties on the frame, glass seal and hardware, and terms vary by brand and series, so we include the specific warranty for the product you choose in your quote. What can void a roofing warranty?
- Improper attic ventilation. Every major shingle manufacturer excludes damage caused by inadequate or unbalanced ventilation. Learn more in our roof ventilation guide.
- Mixing brands. Enhanced system warranties require matching components from the same manufacturer.
- Unregistered warranties. Enhanced warranties must be registered by the certified contractor, usually within a set time after installation.
- Unauthorized alterations, such as satellite dishes or solar mounts installed without proper flashing.
Warranty FAQs
What does "non-prorated" mean?
During the non-prorated period, a covered defect is paid at full value. After it ends, coverage is reduced on a sliding scale based on the age of the roof or siding.
Are your warranties transferable if I sell my home?
Most of the enhanced manufacturer warranties we register can be transferred once to the next owner, which can be a selling point. Transfer rules differ by manufacturer, so we'll walk you through them for your products.
Does a warranty cover storm damage?
Manufacturer warranties cover defects, not storm damage. Hail and wind damage is normally a homeowner's insurance claim, though some siding warranties include limited hail coverage, as noted above. See our insurance claims guide.
